smolanalytics has two paid plans and no perpetual free cloud tier: a hosted instance costs a machine every month, and a plan we lose money on is one we would have to withdraw later. Every account starts with a 14-day trial at Pro limits, no card. When the trial ends nothing already collected is deleted and you are not locked out of it (the instance drops to a dormant state that sleeps when idle and keeps 14 days of history), but that state is a grace period, not a tier we sell: an instance that never picks a plan is eventually stopped and removed, and never without an emailed export notice first. The paid plans are Pro at $19/month (2M events included, always-on so it never sleeps, 2 isolated instances, unlimited sites, 12-month history) and Scale at $49/month (5M events included, 10 instances, 3-year history). Past the included events, both plans bill $6 per million, one number to remember, a fraction of what PostHog and Mixpanel charge at the same volume; every charge gets an emailed receipt, and the dashboard never locks or samples. It is built for solo developers, indie builders, and small startups, no per-seat pricing, no Team or Enterprise tier, no contact-sales. Every plan gets the same product: your coding agent instruments your app over MCP (it reads your code and writes the track() calls), the numbers are computed reports rather than generated queries, history, and isolated instances. Every new account starts with a 14-day trial at Pro limits, no card and keeps read access to what it collected when the trial ends, rather than being locked out. The AI is always free because you connect your own model over MCP, so it is never metered. Sites are never the meter on any plan. And your data is never the hostage: every project runs as its own isolated instance, nothing phones home, and everything you collected exports in one file any time.

every plan gets your coding agent instrumenting your app over MCP, the verdict, ask-in-editor on your own model, an audit log, CSV/JSONL exports, and the CI-tested agreement: answers can't drift from the dashboard, a test fails our build if they ever differ.

Pricing questions

How much does smolanalytics cost?

Pro is $19/month with 2M events included and Scale is $49/month with 5M. Anything past the included events bills at $6 per million, metered continuously rather than in whole blocks, and the dashboard never locks. Every account starts with a 14-day trial at Pro limits, no card. Connecting a repo and getting the instrumentation PR works during the trial: that is how you get to a live dashboard. Two things wait for a paid plan because they spend a model call every time they run: the model-routed ask bar and AI-visibility sampling. There is no free tier; the 14-day trial is the free experience.

How is it cheaper than PostHog or Mixpanel?

Both meter event volume, and their bills climb steeply as you grow. smolanalytics overage is a flat $6 per million, a fraction of what the big hosted tools charge per million, and the AI is your own model over MCP so it is never a metered add-on. If event-count anxiety is why you are leaving, one flat number ends the bill math.

Is there a free plan?

No. Every account starts with a 14-day trial at Pro limits at Pro limits, no credit card; that trial is the free experience. There is no perpetual free tier: a hosted instance costs us a machine every month, and a plan we lose money on is a plan we would have to withdraw later. When the trial ends, plans start at $19/month, nothing already collected is deleted, and your data exports in one file any time.

Do you charge per site?

No, sites are never the meter, so run every product you own on one plan. The ladder is monthly event volume and how much history you keep. Isolated instances (projects) are capped per plan because each is a real, separate server. smolanalytics is priced for solo devs and small startups, not per seat.

What happens if I go over my events?

It depends which plan you are on, and we will have emailed you before you get there either way. On a paid plan nothing breaks: we keep ingesting and the extra volume bills at a flat $6 per million, metered continuously rather than in whole blocks, so one event over costs a fraction of a cent rather than a whole $6. During the trial nothing pauses either: the trial is a full-quota preview, and we email you at 80% and again at 100% of the included events. The only hard stop is a lapsed trial: if the trial ends without a plan, the dormant state has a cap, collection pauses past it, and it restarts the moment you pick a plan. Going over never deletes anything already collected, and the dashboard never locks or samples your data.
